Living heritage (Keyword)

Description

Living heritage, also known as intangible cultural heritage, refers to the traditions, customs, knowledge, and practices that are passed down from generation to generation within a community or society. This can include oral traditions, performing arts, social practices, rituals, festive events, traditional craftsmanship, and other forms of cultural expressions.

Living heritage is important as it not only represents the cultural diversity of different communities, but also reflects their history, values, and identity. It provides a sense of continuity and connection between the past, present, and future, and contributes to the social cohesion and wellbeing of communities.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has recognized the importance of living heritage and established the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2003. This Convention aims to promote the safeguarding, protection, and transmission of living heritage and raise awareness about its significance for humanity.
